Who’s Who?
Tyrone M. Reyes, MD: Trailblazer
Dr. Tyrone M. Reyes was born in 1942 and is married to Dr. Ofelia Luna-Reyes. Dr. Reyes received his medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in 1965 and had specialty training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the Temple University Health Sciences Center in Philadelphia in 1970. Upon his return, he helped flourish the specialization of PM&R, and is the founding chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, where he served as professor until 1990 and College of Rehabilitation Sciences of UST Hospital. He also established the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of USTH, Cardinal Santos Medical Center (CSMC), Philippine Heart Center for Asia (PHCA), and Asian Hospital and Medical Center (AHMC). He was also the founding chair of the Philippine Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine, Sports Medicine Association of the Philippines, Philippine Center for Sports Medicine, and Asia Pacific Society of Rehabilitation Medicine. He served as President of various medical associations; Chief Medical Officer of the Philippine Delegation to the XI Asian Games in Beijing, XXV Olympiad in Barcelona, and XXVI Olympiad in Atlanta; and is the Assistant Medical Director of CSMC, from 1998 – 2008. Dr. Reyes is the recipient of numerous awards including the Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Philippines, Distinguished Career Award at Moss Rehabilitation Centennial celebration, and Presidential Award of Recognition of the PMA to name a few. In recognition of his illustrious medical career and numerous contributions to the field, the Reyes and Reyes Honorary Lecture Series was established in 2019.
