Move Your Body, Move Your Mind:
So You Think You Can Dance

Last September 2, 2023, during the 25th Midyear Scientific Conference entitled “SYNCHRONY: Physiatry and Human Kinetics in Sports and Exercise”, PARM spearheaded its very first national ballroom dance showdown among PARM Chapters, entitled So You Think You Can Dance? Held at the Marriott Clark, Pampanga, the terpsichorean competition featured consultants from various chapters. The expert judges were the celebrity dancers and choreographers, Joshua Zamora (of the Manoeuvres) and Diof Zamora (of Sex Bomb) – a real-life couple. In 3rd Place were Timothy Bugayong, MD and Editha Dizon, MD (PARM STARS) showcasing Barbie in the swing; and Matthew Rex Madayag, MD and Maria Luisa Santos-Carpio, MD (PARM Mindanao) spotlighting the Latin vibe of the salsa. The grand champion was the pair from the PARM National Capital Region (NCR), Justine Cervin Andrei Zamora, MD and Abigail Mendoza-Genato, who gyrated to an ecstatic Bruno Mars’ Versace on the Floor and Runaway jive mash-up.
PARM fellows, diplomates, associates, and residents danced the night away as Josh and Diof Zamora led the enthralled PARM members across the archipelago – from the NCR, North Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao chapters, and the residents-in-training in a dance exercise nostalgia to the rhythm of 80s and 90s music. Indeed, moving the body stimulates endorphins, which in turn moves the mind as they relieve pain, reduce stress, and improve a sense of well-being. Truly, as physiatrists may we all advocate “Move Your Body, Move Your Mind” for our own well-being, and the well-being of our beloved patients.
