Established in 1974, the Philippine Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine (PARM) is the national & sole medical specialty society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (PaRM) physicians, known as Physiatrists. With around 500 members across the archipelago, the academy provides quality service for patients to achieve optimum functional ability, through its leadership role in education, practice, research, and advocacy in the field of Physiatry.

As the brain synapses illuminate, innovations in techniques and technology in physiatry take centerstage in the 34th Golden Annual Scientific Conference of the Philippine Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine (PARM).
Themed, PARM GOLD ILLUMINATIONS & INNOVATIONS: TECHNIQUES & TECHNOLOGY IN PHYSIATRY, the scientific conference was held last February 22 to 25, 2024. All roads led to Novotel Manila, Araneta City, Quezon City to commemorate the 50th founding anniversary of the academy.

Bifid Median Nerve with Persistent Median Artery
The median nerve arises from the medial and lateral cords of the brachial plexus, representing the root level of C5 to T1 levels, which is a mixed sensory and motor nerve. As a single nerve, the median nerve enters underneath the flexor retinaculum in the palmar wrist region.
It then bifurcates distally into medial and lateral branches, whose sensory branch supplies the first three and a half portions of fingers, and a thenar motor branch which supplies the thumb . . .

The Philippine Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine (PARM) collaborated with the PARM National Capital Region (NCR) Chapter, conducted a face-to-face synchronous musculoskeletal, neurological, and medical conference last May 20, 2023 at The Westin Manila, Mandaluyong City.

Who's Who?
Tyrone M. Reyes, MD: Trailblazer
Dr. Tyrone M. Reyes was born in 1942 and is married to Dr. Ofelia Luna-Reyes. Dr. Reyes received his medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in 1965 and had specialty training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the Temple University Health Sciences Center in Philadelphia in 1970.
Upon his return, he helped flourish the specialization of PM&R, and is the founding chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, where he served as professor until 1990 and College of Rehabilitation Sciences of UST Hospital.
